Faces On Friday - Bomarzo Monster Park - Italy

Whilst sorting through some old photos this morning I came across this one taken by my late husband ten years ago of myself and my nephew Scott at Bomarzo. A fun choice I felt for my Faces On Friday feature!

The town of Bomarzo is near Viterbo near where I used to live in Italy and its main attraction is a garden, referred to locally as the 'Bosco dei Mostri' or 'Park of Monsters'. It is named such after the larger than life sculptures dotted around the garden.

The garden was created by Pier Francesco Orsini, called Vicino (1528–1588), who was a keen patron of the arts.  After the death of his wife, Giulia Farnesehe created the gardens in her memory. The design has been attributed to Pirro Ligorio, a well known architect and antiquarian of the time.
The park of Bomarzo was intended not to please, but to astonish and that it certainly does!

With thanks to the following sites, where you can find out more about this fascinating park.

Polesden Lacey - National Trust Property - Surrey - England

Polesden Lacey is an Edwardian house, extended from an older one and estate, owned and run by the National Trust. It is located on the North Downs at Great Bookham, near Dorking, Surrey, England.

As I spent the majority of my childhood in Great Bookham, the grounds of this wonderful estate were my local playground when I was growing up. It was safe in those days to let your young teenagers disappear for a whole day on their bicycles and the estate was such a wonderful playground. We used to have such fun there in those lazy hazy days with no modern technology to distract us.

When my own family were growing up we used to take them there often with their grandparents. At least three generations, possibly more if I do some more family research sometime, of our family have visited and enjoyed this property over the years.

Therefore it seemed only natural then when I was in Surrey in September with my youngest daughter, her husband and a friend for us to pay a visit to Polesden Lacey. Unfortunately it was this time only a fleeting visit due to other commitments but I will be back.

I did manage a quick look around the house and took the opportunity to take a few photos to share here and on Instagram and LindyLouMac's World in Photos which I hope you will enjoy.

The following four  paragraphs are the overview of  Polesden Lacey  on the National Trust Website.

'This is a delicious house...' remarked Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother on her honeymoon at Polesden Lacey. This country retreat, only four miles from Dorking and junction 9 of the M25, has glorious views across the rolling Surrey Hills and acres of countryside.  It was home to famous Edwardian hostess Mrs Greville, who entertained royalty and the celebrities of her time.

Marvel at the glittering Gold Room, designed to impress kings and maharajahs, or Mrs Greville's extensive collection of art and ceramics ranging from world-famous Dutch old masters to sparkling Fabergé objects.

The gardens offer something for every season, including climbing roses at their best in June, a herbaceous border that we’re currently restoring to pre-war glories and a winter garden bursting with yellow aconites.

The wider estate provides plenty of space to let off steam on a walk through woodland or over rolling hills, with four waymarked trails to try.

With the courtesy of the National Trust and YouTube.

The remainder of my photos will give you a glimpse inside the house from the grand entrance hall through to below stairs via the sumptuous rooms used for entertaining.

Brooklands Motor Museum - American and Classic Car Rally - Weybridge - Surrey - England

Brooklands is a 2.75-mile (4.43 km) motor racing circuit and aerodrome built near Weybridge in SurreyEnglandUnited Kingdom. It opened in 1907 and was the world's first purpose-built motor racing circuit, as well as one of Britain's first airfields, which also became Britain's largest aircraft manufacturing centre by 1918.
The circuit hosted its last race in 1939 and today part of it forms the Brooklands Museum, a major aviation and motoring museum, as well as a venue for vintage car, motorcycle and other transport-related events.

I had the pleasure of visiting Brooklands Motor Museum on September 6th 2015 when it  also happened to be the venue for an American and Classic Car Rally. A great photo opportunity.

Having discovered that during October it was the 80th Anniversary of John Cobb setting the Ultimate Brooklands Outer Circuit Lap Record in the Napier-Railton. It therefore seems an appropriate time to publish my post on the Birthplace of British Motorsport and Aviation, Home of Concorde.

The sound of the Napier-Railton engine can be enjoyed by following the link.

I took a few hundred photos, a few of which I have shared on my Instagram stream. It was impossible to decide which ones to select to share here, so I have created a video instead which I hope the car enthusiasts amongst you will enjoy.

The photos used here are all my own and they are just a selection of the ones I took during the visit. I have already posted others on Instagram and will probably use some in the future on LindyLouMac's World in Photos. Please consider following me via either of the two sites if are interested in seeing more of my photos.

School Girls in Hong Kong

Those of you that have been been following my Photography Blog for sometime may recall having seen photos of Pre Wedding Photo Sessions before. These are normal practice in Hong Kong and the photos are displayed for guests to purchase.
During my last visit I saw quite a few of these photo shoots and of course I took some photos with my Faces on Friday posts in mind.

Race The Train 2015 - Tywyn - Wales

Yesterday was an important one in the social calender for Tywyn when the Rotary Club of Tywyn organise an annual major event.

Race The Train. This year was the thirty second Annual Race.

As you will have probably  realised from this post, I am back in Wales! Apologies all my good intentions of posting on a regular basis during the last six weeks whilst I have been travelling never materialised, One was as far as I got, it was not just a lack of time that thwarted my efforts but also that I just do not seem to get on well with the publishing programme that I have on my ipad. Before I go away again I will try and find one that maybe I can cope with.
Anyway I have lots of hopefully interesting posts and photos to share with you over the coming months, yes months I think it will take that long to catch up.

Up The Peak - Hong Kong

Since my last post I have set off on my travels and am now currently spending some time in Hong Kong visiting my daughter. As I am using my ipad whilst travelling my posts will mainly be photos. Having been here many times before you may be interested in looking back at my old posts if you want more information, you will find I have previously linked to many websites that provide lots of up todate information on exploring this fascinating city.

I caught the Tram up to The Peak and then enjoyed a very slow walk back down to Mid-Levels. Slow not only due to the heat and high humidity but the fact that I was pausing all the time to take the photos I have shared today.

Aberdovey - Aberdyfi - A Summer Walk

This was last week on what was supposedly the first day of summer! An afternoon walk in Aberdovey was cold and windy, especially up at the bandstand where I took these photos
The weather has improved a little this week but still a cold wind.
This post is an experiment with using 'Blogsy' publishing application from my iPad, as I am off on my travels soon and would like to try and stay in touch. I will not have a laptop computer with me, just an iPad so please bear with me as I discover if this is going to work.
